Mui Tsz Lam Commons
Share
Originally a traditional Hakka house in Mui Tsz Lam, Sha Tau Kok, the Old House has been restored by CUHK’s Project Plum Grove since 2021, now serving as Mui Tsz Lam Commons, a multi-purpose village hub open to villagers and the public. The primary configuration and existing perimeter wall in rammed earth were retained, while clerestory glazing and sustainable features like solar panels were added to facilitate new uses such as exhibitions, seminars, workshops, communal dining, and co-living activities. MTL Commons is an experiment in long-term operation models with stakeholders, regenerating the place by reconnecting people through a collaborative process and empowering the village community towards self-sustaining renewal.
