BUILT IN
1958–1959 (Phase I)
1965–1967 (Phase II)

Built in two phases over half a century ago, Kwun Tong Garden Estate is one of Hong Kong’s earliest large-scale housing developments for workers in the nearby industrial area. Phase I features linear building blocks named after flowers, while the bird-inspired Phase II cascades along the natural hillside to maximise natural light and ventilation. Though designed for working-class residents, the estate prioritises quality of life from the start, introducing independent kitchens and bathrooms alongside essential amenities like shops, schools, and playgrounds. This visionary planning fostered a deep sense of pride and sense of belonging to the community that endures to this day.

As Kwun Tong Garden Estate prepares for redevelopment, this tour takes visitors through the "Garden Estate Memory Lane" gallery and surrounding community spaces. Through guided storytelling, the tour unravels the estate’s history, revisit neighborhood stories, and celebrate a piece of Kwun Tong’s living heritage.
