Methodist College

ARCHITECT
Szeto Wai

BUILT IN
1958

Methodist College was established in 1958 on a site adjacent to Kowloon Methodist Church and Methodist School, both of which had been completed in 1951. It was the first secondary school established by the Methodist Church. The school building was designed by architect and engineer Mr. Szeto Wai, who had also contributed to the design of Kowloon Methodist Church. Methodist College is regarded as one of his early and significant educational projects in Hong Kong. Built on a hillside, the campus sits atop a small knoll and is distinguished by several notable architectural features, including the distinctive triangular wave-shaped roof crowning the main building and its façade of irregular granite masonry. In addition, the school was constructed above the remains of a pre-war air-raid shelter beside Gascoigne Road, presenting considerable engineering and construction challenges.
