The Chinese Methodist Church North Point

The Chinese Methodist Church North Point, built in 1966, has served the community in North Point and Quarry Bay through church-school cooperation. Designed by Szeto Wai, the North Point Church is one of Hong Kong's distinctive examples of Brutalist architecture. Situated on a small hill, it uses the slope of Healthy Street East in North Point to create a lofty and dignified atmosphere. The church features an accordion-shaped folding roof and eight structural frames formed by hexagonal columns, which support the entire roof. The interior is high, spacious, and pillar-less, making it an ideal space for worship and public gatherings, fulfilling practical purposes while showcasing its simple and unadorned characteristic.

The guided tour will be led by architect Stuart Chen, who will explain how this white building, which lacks the typical exposed concrete exterior, manages to be considered Brutalist.
