Urban Living Lab ✕ Tidal Stories

A guided tour to see two creations in the public spaces of Tai Kok Tsui.

'Urban Living Lab' transforms a neglected corner of the city into a gigantic sun parasol. The geometric form of the structure's shell is constructed around the existing trees, providing shade while maintaining ventilation. The design combines Tai Kok Tsui's traditional galvanised steel craft with glulam bamboo structure. The rotating shape is inspired by the form of a ship, recreating the spatial characteristics that reflect Tai Kok Tsui's land and sea transformation.

The designers of 'Tidal Stories' dive into the history of Tai Kok Tsui, examining maps and archival materials spanning a century. They discovered that the land where this triangular planter is located has witnessed the evolution of the Tai Kok Tsui coastline from 1900 to the present day, serving as a microcosm of Hong Kong's urban development. The artwork invites the public to momentarily step away from the city's hustle, engage in a dialogue with history, and rediscover forgotten community memories.

This guided tour will be led by the creative teams of 'Urban Living Lab' and 'Tidal Stories', taking everyone to explore the Tai Kok Tsui community and examine the public spaces in this area closely.
