Wah Fu Estate

The Wah Fu Estate, which began construction in 1963, was designed by Dr. Donald Liao, the former Director of Housing. It was Hong Kong's first public housing project to introduce the "community concept," providing various essential living facilities for 50,000 residents. This self-sufficient, hillside, and seaside community has carried the neighborhood life of several generations, featuring unique public spaces built along the slopes and a rich, human-centered housing culture. Having stood for over half a century, Wah Fu Estate now faces redevelopment. For long-time residents who have lived there for decades, relocation represents not only a change in living space but also an emotionally complex journey. The Hong Kong Housing Authority aims to ensure that this redevelopment not only provides more modern housing but also serves as a "people-oriented project" that works hand-in-hand with residents to build a new home and continue the community spirit.
