Peng Chau Cinema

Peng Chau Cinema is a living witness to the changing times of the island. Originally opened in 1978 as Peng Chau’s only movie theater, it provided a beloved social and entertainment space for local residents. After closing in 1987 due to societal shifts and the rise of television, the building stood dormant for over three decades. In recent years, the cinema’s main hall has been revitalised: a group of passionate locals have organised music concerts, film screenings, and markets, breathing new life into the historic venue and bringing the community together. Today, Peng Chau Cinema serves as a platform for independent arts and cultural exchange, carrying the memories of island life while creating new chapters for the present. It is both a living room for the community and an iconic cultural landmark for Peng Chau.
