Quarryside

Operated by St. James' Settlement, Quarryside is a community space built alongside the harbour front of Quarry Bay. Supported by the Development Bureau's “Funding Scheme to Support the Use of Vacant Government Sites by Non-government Organisations”, it was built on a vacant government site with the aim to repurpose the area and provide an inclusive, accessible space for the community to gather. In homage to its location next to the harbour and the district’s history as a sugar refinery and dockyard area, the architecture of Quarryside incorporates elements from its history, such as a sloping roof resembling the sugar refinery and an amphitheatre inspired by the dockyard.

There is a wide range of activities to enjoy at Quarryside. Regular public programmes are offered  to promote its three strategic themes : creative health, creative placemaking and creative sustainability.

Architects Benjamin Tsang and Choi Kit-Wang of MATTER Limited, together with Mr Anthony Lui, Project Director of Quarryside, will lead a guided tour to explain the concept and aims of the community space, and how the inclusive space was created from an user standpoint.
