Blue House

Blue House was built in the 1920s as a four-storey residential building with a wide balcony where the upper floor served as a residence and the ground floor as a shop. Before World War II, the ground floors housed the grocery and winery, while the upper floors housed educational institutions and also base of Fresh Fish Trader’ Association. After the war, a martial arts school operated on the ground floor. Full of cultural history, part of the building’s ownership was transferred to the government in 1978, and painted its signature blue color in 1990s.

Viva Blue House was the first 'Retain House and Tenant' revitalised project, and has been managed by St James' Settlement since 2013 in order to preserve Hong Kong's historical architecture, and to build a sustainable economic model that fosters a sense of community.

The guided tour will be led by knowledgeable townsfolk from Wan Chai and by Good Neighbour who will introduce the early days of life in the Blue House, as well as the living environment and residents' experiences after revitalisation.
