Kowloon Union Church

Established in 1924, Kowloon Union Church is one of the earliest inter-denominational churches in Hong Kong. During the Japanese occupation, the church building was heavily damaged, while the sanctuary was used by Japanese Army as a horse stable because of the large and tall space available. The church was reopened in 1947, continuing to serve the community until now. A staple of the “Perpendicular Gothic” architectural style, it has a pitched Chinese-tiled roof. The front doors of the church are part of a square battlemented tower, where a pointed archway is inlaid. The tower is built with red brick, contrasting the carved granite trimmings and ornaments. The windows of the church are set in decorative granite framing in the form of trefoil-headed tracery, with carved hoods above them. The main hall of the church is elegantly designed, with double hammer-beam timber roof trusses, alongside carved granite corbel supports.
