Challenging conventional perceptions of columbaria, the Shek Mun Columbarium and Garden of Remembrance prioritises natural light and landscaped greenery, integrating biophilic architecture with the surrounding forested hills. The exterior walls of the main building feature vertical, wood-textured aluminum panels, enhancing privacy while fostering a serene, tranquil atmosphere for remembering loved ones.

The spatial design prioritises visitors' emotional and psychological experience. Families approach the building along a tree-lined boulevard that connects to a pedestrian subway, arriving amid soothing greenery. The foyer connects the garden plaza and the main building, and features an eight-metre-high, four-metre-deep glass canopy, introducing natural light and a sense of spaciousness, ensuring comfort even during peak visitation periods in spring and autumn.

The Garden of Remembrance is themed around seasonal plants, symbolising the continuity of life. Within the grounds, the “Garden of Forever Love” is dedicated to the unborn, with resting spaces discreetly nestled beneath planters to uphold the philosophy of unity with nature. Oriented to capture prevailing monsoons, the building integrates ventilation corridors, renewable energy technologies, and over 520 trees to regulate the microclimate, achieving a sustainable, low-carbon design.
