From the early 19th century, the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris began to establish the “studio crit.” To this day, “Crit” (short for critique) remains an indispensable part of architectural education worldwide. On the day of a Crit, all students present their design drawings and models in the studio, introducing their ideas to tutors, guests, and classmates, and preparing for an intense debate. Every architectural designer has invariably received unsparing criticism and warm encouragement; such experiences not only strengthen their resolve but also help them mature as designers.
This edition of Open House Hong Kong has featured about fifty architectural spaces. What are your thoughts on these spaces? We invite designers, volunteers, participants, and any friends interested in joining an Open Crit, where ideas can be shared openly and equally!
